5. Why do people get dogs if they are not going to treat them like living beings?

I'll never understand what the appeal of having a dog is for them if they view/treat dogs no different than an inanimate possession.

I found another article and I found this bit of information in case anyone was concerned: "Albuquerque police said it's legal in their city to break a car window if a baby or dog is in distress."
