Netflix series "The Family"

You NEED to watch this............... it is TERRIFYING. This group (The Family) has been in the shadows for DECADES pulling the strings of government and "hiding in plain sight". It is a Jesus worshiping organization but not part of any mainstream organized religion. It discounts nearly all the Bible and endorses the ideal of an authoritarian "wolf" Jesus.

I thought the documentary on Cambridge analytica was terrifying.... I'm only two episodes into this one and it has blown it out of the water.

It was pretty terrifying. These people are insane, but powerful. I think this documentary is worth a watch.

When I saw the recent announcement of the Netflix series, I was surprised it was still treated as revelatory. I assumed many more knew about it.

It was being discussed here, but Iraq and Cheney and USAG issues were piling up then too.

guess I will watch it to see if we had missed anything between then and now.

it is based on the book written by someone who was a member of "The Family". He narrates to you and it is a mixture of recreations of his experiences with actors and actual newsclips/photos.

He had been on Rachels show and more recently on CNN....one reviewer mentions..It seems the arrest of the Russian woman, Maria Butina, has reopened this can of worms.

She infiltrated the NRA and other right leaning groups to find out how to influence Americans, for the Kremlin. Her attendance at The National Prayer Breakfast , as were 50 other Russians, just confirms what this book originally talked about.

Is relevant today..as is Democracy in Chains..another review..Now, with Mike Pence as Vice President, the cause has a longtime loyalist in the White House, not to mention a phalanx of Republicans in the House, the Senate, a majority of state governments, and the courts, all carrying out the plan. That plan includes harsher laws to undermine unions,...we are living it...

Now, afa the DOC on Netflix - The Great Hack...I was infuriated..Brittany Kaiser..remorseful?? -

Still digesting The Great Hack..the more we are aware of the efforts, mining data, ads, the tools used to sway voters - just increases our ability to detect fact from fiction..I just wish The Great Hack was available nationwide...

That on line survey..don't do it..Facebook..cancelled a year ago - although was not active...

Glad you watched, and The Family - on my watch list..

I don't see a way out of this trap, either. I read the book some years ago and I am more horrified than ever by the success of this right wing takeover.

... that the lone source for this Netflix documentary is the journalist Jeff Sharlet. In his articles he mentions Hillary Clinton as part of the group, and Al Gore as a close friend to the leader.

esp. if you haven't read the book.

Yes - it shows Clinton with Doug Coe, but it clearly is more of a problem with the Republicans. They are totally about propping up the white male, traditional family hierarchy. Clinton probably (I'm guessing) did something they didn't like - or Hillary did - so they went after Clinton any way they could - with various lawsuits. If they like someone - they may have the power to prevent such lawsuits - at least that is what is suggested.

Look at the Republican party - that is what they are about. Including the idea that it doesn't matter if someone did or does horrible things - as long as they are one of the "chosen". As long as they are in good graces with the 'Family'.
