... if Trump wins the next election in 2020??
I know that is not something that any of us want to think about. But, it could happen.
If Mark Zuckerberg lets Trump and the Republicans use the Facebook platform in the next election, as he did in the last one, then it could very well happen again. When there are 7 million ads for Trump and only 67,000 for the Democrat, then we have some huge problems. That was the reported number of ads placed in the last election. The problem being that most of the ads are lies and propaganda, intended to divide the people of this country.
What will you do if Trump "wins" another term?
Will you double down and work twice as hard to get rid of him? Will you try to persuade the Congress, if still Democratic, to impeach him early in his second term?
Or will you be tempted to just give up on politics and the American people? After all, if they choose him as president, knowing what they now know, what else can you say or do to persuade them otherwise?
Or will you work against the next Trump regime in a different way?
Have you thought about this possibility?

(7,011 posts)and minorities in general. It won't be a question of what one does politically. It will be a question of basic survival beyond making ends meet. It will be one of staying alive day to day.
America will have abandoned them. People will get fired en mass for the color of their skin. The safety net will be torn assunder, and "the other" will be purged.

(34,111 posts)I am stubborn as hell. I am living on land that is very close to where my ancestors homesteaded and fought to keep Kansas a free state. I am a DAR although I have not joined the group. I am loathe to leave my farm, my little village, my state or my country. In fact I doubt I will. What the rest of my family does I don't know but as I said, I am stubborn and this is my country too.
I don't think much beyond that. I have to be able to sleep and boy is it hard to do when I go to bed thinking of this.
I have to hope this country will see the light. This last thing about censoring the Internet will not go over well even with a lot of Trumpers, but then I am often wrong. If they love this country one would hope they know what this means and that it is against everything this country is bound to.
It is all going to go to hell in a hand basket very soon with the climate. Let us hope and work for having someone who is generous, smart and able in the office when the shit hits the fan. We are coming to no good times very soon whatever else happens, it would be better with a good leader.

(11,949 posts)Too old to leave and besides, Im an American. I love France and could have been happy there had I made the move 25 years ago. And I really dont want to live anywhere more than an hour from the gulf coast. Its my happy place.
But 2018 gave me real hope. We never do that well in midterms. And he thought he could win it by going all racist and scare the voters. I expect it will work less well during a presidential election where we turn out our voters. And they will turn out. He sure isnt doing anything to bring suburban women back into the republican fold. Quite the contrary.

(15,540 posts)Knowing my personality and the fact that I'm in the waning years of my life, I will become more reclusive/introverted. I will probably use the rest of my life to just think of myself, my own needs, desires and the few loved ones I have left and hell with the rest of the world. I have never been a selfish or self-centered person, but I am quickly becoming one. I have spent most of my life caring for and about others and those less fortunate than I am, but I will join the every-man-for-himself culture that this has become. I will take solace in music, books, good food and the outdoors/nature.

We must do all we can do to keep it from happening.
We must fight back.

(16,113 posts)If Facebook ads are so effective, perhaps we could find some way that democrats could use social media to influence voters. Maybe we could somehow convince Facebook to allow people to pay for advertising on their platform? Then we would have access to the same low information voters that Trump did. The sort of people who make their voting decisions base on social media.
