1. Can anyone explain the paradox?

Trump claims all these tariffs are being paid by China, not the American consumer. But he's postponing the tariffs that China pays so the consumer will have more money to spend on Christmas. The second sentence doesn't follow at all from the first. At least one of them is a lie (maybe both).

so he's trying to think of ways to make his base think he does.

4. Makes perfect sense

You’ve heard the expression suspend disbelief?

To understand these kinds of statements you just have to suspend logic, morality and intelligence.

It might even be worth doing if it left you in a serene state, but evidence says the people who do it are unusually angry.

But maybe I just haven’t perfected the frame of mind yet.

He makes some bone headed disastrous move, or proposes to do it, and then he stops doing it or reverses himself, and calls himself a hero!

Example: restoring the restrictions on the mentally ill being allowed to buy a gun. The Obama legislation that he removed right out of the gate early in his presidency.
