(4,568 posts)The groom looks like he is ready to punch him in his odious puss.
I wonder what exactly would happen if he did. Is there some special penalty for assaulting the pres?
lunatica
(53,410 posts)The penalty is very high!
Disaffected
(4,568 posts)how high? What would happen if he punched him - arrested (at least I suppose), shot on the spot, something in between? Are penalties in law specifically higher for those who punch government officials or, the president in particular??
Add: If this source is credible:

"Title 18 of the U.S. Code provides a penalty of up to 10 years for assaulting the chief. (According to the same law, assaulting the deputy secretary of agricultureyes, it's in thereonly gets you a year.)"
Looks like the punishment is proportional to pay grade.
There is however in this case a serious mitigating factor - just present the photo at the trial and I'll bet any at all sympathetic jury would acquit (and award damages to the defendant).

(53,410 posts)but I somehow think one would disappear down a dark hole never to be heard from again.
Ive never heard of an ex-Presidential assaulter though it may have never happened. Ive heard of attempted assaults, but no successful ones. It would be like proving or disproving the existence of UFOs. It cant be done at this time.
