Did Romney really believe he had to convince America that he loves his family?

This was his big chance to tell America why he is the best leader for these times, and he used half of his speech to show America that he loved his Mom and Dad, adores his wife, and is blessed by having kids? I calculate that puts Romney in a very exclusive group, along with about 100 million other fellow citizens.

Seriously, at ths stage of the campaign Romney felt a need to go out there and burnish his credentials as a good family man? That was an acceptance speech? Honestly, it is pathetic that his team felt Romney needed to use up that many precious minutes shoring up his standing as a nice human being.

...like a hostage taker uses a human shield. To me he only cheapened his cred as a family man by being so blatently political as to make that a corner stone of his speech

Mitt, no one really thought you were an android. Relax.

Which one of his kids said Mitt always goes first to the buffet line they set up when they're having a family get-together, and he finishes his food before everyone has theirs? They've got to do SOMETHING to make the voters think Mitt isn't stiffer than an oak 2x4.

He could have really showed how much he cared. Restraint in politics is important. You don't want to go overboard on sentimentality.

13. Their stated goal was to make Mitt "likable" They don't care about policy, or the middle class.

their poling shows that people think Romney is a stiff asshole who is entirely unlikable. The convention was designed to make President Obama a sad charity case, and Romney becomes Mr. Wonderful.

Unfortunately Clint Eastwood turned Mitt into the Chair-ity case, and Romney is still unlikable.

The mind numbing part though is that they felt they had to go all the way back to square one to attempt to construct a likable Romney. Every second of a Convention acceptance speech is precious. And he had to use half of his to make the case that he is actually human.
