Portland protests: Confrontations avoided between far right, antifa

A heavy police presence largely kept members of the Proud Boys and other far-right groups separated from far-left, anti-fascist activists at a downtown park Saturday, avoiding violent clashes that have marred earlier confrontations.

Although the day was largely peaceful, police said they did seize weapons such as metal and wooden poles, bear spray and shields from demonstrators, and at least three people were arrested.

At one point, the far-right organizers asked for police to escort them from the area.

Joe Biggs, a former InfoWars staffer who organized the far-right rally along with the head of the alt-right Proud Boys, told KGW that his side made their point with a show of strength in Portland.

So strong the police had to escort them out.

Live stream footage from within the fascist group clearly showed neo-Nazi leaders just as clueless about what was happening as their followers. They idiotically thought police officers were going to escort and protect them on some kind of glorious man-splaining march through downtown Portland, since that is what has happened before there.

However, the fascists underestimated the impact of recent local investigative reporting that revealed through emails the "cozy," shall we say, relationship between PPD riot squad members and the white nationalist groups they had encouraged to come to Portland. With that glaring discrepancy now out in the limelight, there was no way the mayor could allow "business as usual."

So, instead, the NAZIS GOT PLAYED. Rather than receiving the expected escort toward the thousands of Portland citizens who turned out against them downtown, police led the out-of-towner racists on a long, isolated march on a sidewalk along the river where there were zero crowds, then across a closed-off bridge, and finally deposited them even further away from anybody having to see or hear them.

Flummoxed by what had happened, the fascist leaders then tried to convince their followers that they had somehow achieved what they came for. "It was a success, damn it, because I said so! That's how we have to play this, got it?!"

Then the leaders ran around in circles asking each other who, if anyone, had arranged transportation to get them the hell out of Dodge. Apparently, nobody had figured that out yet because they all thought they would be pre-occupied with bashing heads right about then in a completely different part of the city.

Yet, when word started to spread that maybe the police weren't on their side anymore and, worse, counterprotesters were making their way toward the river, the fascist leaders started screaming at everyone, "Go! Leave now! Get the f**k out of here!" Some took off running. Some called for Ubers. Someone else kept demanding, "Where the hell are the buses?" (presumably the ones that had bussed them in from out-of-state).

All in all, it was a regular Laurel & Hardy / Three Stooges kind of exhibition.

So, no, the man-babies didn't "ask" to be escorted out of the city. They were duped into heading out, led by the nose even, and then ultimately ran away licking their emotional wounds.

Gotta love that live streaming---no do-overs!
