Dump proved with that ignorant screed that people with mental health issues are the ones most likely to fall victim to violence.

But here in Illinois, it was a Republican governor -- Big Jim Thompson -- who closed or downsized the mental health facilities. There are a few small facilities left.

Homelessness went up noticeably and stayed that way. Heartless, thoughtless, his conscience had myopia. Compassion much?

I remember the irony of those sanctimonious photos of him acting so pious at these Prayer Breakfasts with the religious extremists. Nauseating and galling as all-get-out. This is the same shameless heartless phony-baloney who closed the mental institutions in California, turning all those helpless people out onto the streets. How can you play holier-than-thou when you’ve done that?

I guess he didn’t consider the “least of My brethren” story in Matthew 25.

many of those people didn't really belong in mental institutions because they were no harm to anyone. But what was really reprehensible is that the money saved by letting harmless people out of repressive mental institutions wasn't reinvested in community mental healthcare.

What should have been done is leave some mental institutions open for those that had to be there. Create group homes with on staff psychiatrists for those that needed more supervision and create community mental health centers for those who needed health on an outpatient basis. I know these do exist but we don't have near enough mental health care for those that need it and don't have insurance. Not only that, those that do have insurance many times end up losing jobs that provide it when their mental illness becomes acute and they lose their jobs.

And half way though his non-answer he seems to forget what the question was.

But anyone with a functional brain would have answered either 'YES!' or 'No, the NRA won't let me!'

But yeah, every hunter needs his 100 round magazine. You might be stalking something big in the backwoods, and be confronted by hordes of brain eating zombies!

a very complicated process that requires even more funding than institutions -- but the state never provided the resources nor did it consult with the professionals who could have made clear the benefits and pitfalls. Never considering the opinions of experts is a Reagan hallmark, and the Dumpster has elevated it to a new level.

You can't have national security if the Senate and the Executive Branch are controlled by a hostile foreign power. You can't have national security if that hostile foreign power used its influence to aid the takeover of the Supreme Court and a significant part of the Judiciary Branch.
