Epstein taken off suicide watch on psychologist’s advice

Sex fiend financier Jeffrey Epstein was taken off suicide watch on the recommendation of a psychologist at the federal detention center where he ultimately killed himself, according to a letter from the U.S. Justice Department.

Epstein, 66, had been placed on suicide watch on July 24, after he tried to hang himself in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan.

But he was “later removed from suicide watch after being evaluated by a doctoral-level psychologist who determined that a suicide watch was no longer warranted,” according to a letter sent to the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday.

The letter, dated Thursday, came from Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd’s office in response to the committee’s demands seeking information about Epstein’s death.

he could have "faked it" with the doctor. I'm surprised they had only one doctor evaluate him, especially after one failed attempt.

How many competent and qualified professionals should they pay to evaluate prisoners?

Especially with a person like Epstein. At common trials they have several doctors give their opinions and Epstein was far from common.

of psych training, the lower the success of prediction. Psych techs, for instance, out-predicted psychiatrists with MDs and doctoral-level psychologists. Extrapolating, licensed psych pros not necessarily any better, perhaps worse, at predicting behavior than unlicensed folk.

Just remember, as a panel of psychs was saying Ed Kemper, who had murdered his grandparents at 15, was completely rehabilitated, he was picking up hitchhiking coeds and murdering them.

Went on to commit a particularly heinous murder of his mother and her friend, all while deemed no longer a threat to society.

Psychiatrists can be held liable when a patient under their care commits suicide if linked to professional negligence or unethical treatment. Do wonder if psychiatrist will suffer any repercussions.

If a person is facing lifetime imprisonment and discomfort it really isn’t irrational. He probably said what he needed to say to get cleared.
