General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe right, and the US corporate media, like to talk about "bad bad antifa".
And the occasional acts of violence committed by a tiny number of Antifa protesters that are dwarfed by the massive amount of white supremacist violence.
My question:
Given that the word Antifa is an abbreviation for anti-fascist, is it better to be Antifa, or an actual fascist?
In my opinion, it is an easy choice.

They're cockroaches and murderers, and they're to be disowned from the human race.
Fascism must be fought BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

(42,641 posts)And I still do, with one exception. In the past 2 years, I have dealt with an admitted Nazi, and Act for America racists. When dealing with them in various venues, I call them racists and shout them down when they try to speak.

(11,738 posts)Fascism and right wing politics operate within the framework of Capitalism. They support an extreme version of the status quo, making certain changes to the hierarchy but typically supporting the racial and economic power structures. So, while the corporate media try to distance themselves from the "uglier" actions of fascists, it is more for looks than fundamental differences.
Antifa is typically a left wing movement that not only seeks to stand against fascists but also to fundamentally change the status quo and redistribute the wealth and power within a flatter society.
If fascists win, the status quo remains the same with some tweaks. If Antifa wins, the power structure changes fundamentally which is infinitely scarier to the mainstream.

(42,641 posts)Both major Parties in the US are basically cheerleaders for capitalism. US political thought accepts as a given that capitalism is the only way for the US. The debate is over what, if any, regulation is needed.
