Kim Olson, a Democratic congressional candidate in Texas 24th District, is making big waves in the Lone Star State. The retired Air Force colonel spent 28 years in the armed forces, commanding troops here at home and in combat areas such as Iraq.
Shes tough, and she isnt afraid to speak her mind. As someone whos actually served in a combat zone, shes seen weapons of war up close, and she didnt hold back at a recent event when the subject of firearms came up, telling the audience in the strongest of terms why we need to act now. Let me just say this, and Im unapologetic, weapons of war do not belong in the streets of America. Period.

(191 posts)That's how we need our pols talking about such issues to the voters. I don't want a Power Point presentation. Give it to me straight talk!

(7,277 posts)I wish Democrats would begin answers about gun violence with these 9 words.

(9,688 posts)Not a coincidence that, like Olson, he does so drawing on his own experience with those weapons of war.
Good, succinct phrase that also happens to be absolutely true.
Olson seems like a great candidate, by the way!
It's no co-incidence both spent time in the service.
Thats what I was trying to say (best I could do this morning before coffee )
