Just found out my friend is a 'birther'.

I can't believe it.
He's 72 years old, has a degree in electrical engineering, and is a retired pilot for a major airline. He's a world traveled, educated man.

I knew he was a right winger, but a birther?
We were talking about a birther email we both received.
I wondered why these loonies couldn't let it go.
He said "I don't believe he was born in the U.S."
"Seriously?"
"Seriously."

I am just flabbergasted.
I asked him if he'd read Snopes on the matter.
"They're liberals, I don't believe them either. It's been proved that his birth certificate is a fake."
(That's the email we were talking about.)
"How could such a huge cover-up happen? Hasn't he been vetted by FBI background checks, etc.?"
"The liberal media is behind it all."

Fuck it.
I. Give. Up.

2. if Obama is such a genius that at 2 days of age

he is able to arrange a conspiracy whereby 40 years later he is able to masquerade as an American, that man is the smartest thing on the planet and I want him on my side.

Ask your friend, how did Obama time travel to put his birth announcements in local newspapers immediately after he was born?

Well to be fair we really still don't know how killed JFK but the birther movement has no evidence except what they photoshop. He would never have been allowed to take office if he was not born in the US. Especially with the crazy right wing supreme court, if there was any real evidence you better believe they would have taken it up whether its part of their job or not. Unfortunately there are many many people in this country that have mental illnesses that are undiagnosed. Whether these illnesses are minor or major it doesn't matter, only a mentally ill person could believe the birther bullshit.

The allegations about Obama had been swirling around during the Democratic primary. Do you honestly think for one hard second that -- if it had been indeed true or even possible-- Hillary Clinton wouldn't have been screaming the news from the top of every bell tower in the country?? This woman is a woman who allegedly had Vince Foster KILLED, fer fuck's sakes, and who wanted to be President of the United States so bad she could taste it.

She would have eviscerated Obama with it, plain and simple.

8. Tell him you want to see Ryan's BC
Fri Aug 31, 2012, 12:06 PM
Aug 2012

Tell him how you long to see Ryan's BC, because he is a illegitimate child born out of wedlock, and there is no proof that papa Ryan was his real father. Why wouldn't Ryan marry Ms. Hutter? Was Paul's real dad an illegal foreigner? Paul as VP could never serve as president!

"Ryan was born in Janesville, Wisconsin to Elizabeth A. "Betty" (née Hutter)" wiki

And also tell him Romney is not eligible to be president. His father was born in Mexico and legally held citizenship to Mexico according to Mexican laws, and even if got a duel citizenship (Am/MX), Mexican law says any child born to the father is a Mexican citizen.

Tell him you hope he won't vote for two illegal aliens.
===========
Is he religious as well?

The bible clearly says Ryan, a bastard child, cannot be a Christian. And as you should know, Romney is a Mormon, not a Christian who believes in one god, or who believes in Immaculate conception. The bible is clear on both of them, and warns Christians against associating themselves to either of these two heathens. http://bible-truth.org/LDStheism.html#013a

Matthew 12:30
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

2 John 1:10-11
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

Shun those who disagree with your religious views. Romans 16:17

And those Christians who follow and support the nonchristian over Obama, a Christian, will burn in hell.

"Whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." MATT 10:33

I am a Vietnam combat veteran 67-68'. Ask him how he can vote for VN draft dodger who refused to serve his country according to the Oath to the American Creed, and ran off to France to hide. Who spent his life bringing foreigners here to suck off our entitlements when working as a Mormon. Who sent American jobs and factories to foreigners. Who took all his profits out of US circulation that could have been used for business and college loans, and put it in foreign bank accounts to help foreigners. And then ask him why this guy that has rejected America and Americans should now be the American President??

Woe on your friend. I would be ashamed.

9. You are dealing with the fervor of religious belief

being educated, or otherwise rational, have nothing to do with it.

This is why RW economics also work... they take on the fervor of religion.

Let's not make a federal case out of it (I mean really let's not). Compare it to the case of the two Texans, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, running for POTUS and VPOTUS. Everybody who could do something about the fact that they were from the same state and therefore both could not serve, went along with pretending that Dick was from Wyoming. It's a small point but not one that I'd toss out for so many others.

All I can say is, "Really? For real?" It makes no sense to me outside of a racist mindset, and I wouldn't have considered these folks to be racist. The propaganda has been successful, I guess.

Or does he think that W would be pleased as punch to just send the secret service right out there to protect a foreigner who ran, in large part, on what a scew-job W gave us all?

I'm a native.
So is my friend.
He's 72, I'm 71.
He's from a (then) small (Roll Tide) college town.
I grew up in Birmingham in the 40s, 50s, and the bad ol' 60s.
Maybe that gives us different perspectives.
I dunno.

I'm just so disappointed in him.
He was the best man at our wedding.
I was apolitical back then. I suspect he was too.
Hell, we were in our 20s and mainly concerned with our airline careers.

It really hurts to learn that an old friend is just...an idiot.
