Trump speaks with Polish president ahead of Warsaw trip

President Trump spoke on the phone with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday to lay the groundwork for his upcoming trip to Warsaw. Trump is expected to depart Saturday morning for Warsaw, where he will attend ceremonies and visit memorials to commemorate the World War II anniversary. Trump and Duda met face-to-face at the White House back in June.

“The President and the First Lady are looking forward to their trip to Poland where they will join other world leaders to mark the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II,” White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere said in a statement.

Trump was originally supposed to travel to Denmark following his stop in Poland, but he canceled the state visit earlier this month after that nation's prime minister rejected his proposal to purchase Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory.

Trump accused Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of making “nasty” remarks by calling the proposal “absurd.” Trump said later last week that he spoke with her* and that the two had a “great conversation” and agreed to speak again, suggesting they had patched things over.
