Stop with the "Thoughts and Prayers" bullshit already.
Those Officials currently being interviewed in Odessa including Police and Govt. are once again going to the the thoughts and Prayers card...
Thought, Prayers and God are not the answer to the lunacy we are currently experiencing in our country..
And while I'm still on the subject.. I will also state that the Mental illness conversation which is now the fav of all pro gun advocates and Republicans is complete bullshit as well..

(6,423 posts)Capitalism is at fault for all of this, but those with it firmly owning themselves would never admit it?

(516 posts)In his great book Guns, Germs, and Steel, the noted anthropologist observed:

But humans love the great wealth created by capitalism even though we are destroying most other life on Earth.
It is quite the dilemma. No doubt life on Earth would be better off if all us humans were still foraging for food.

(11,084 posts)They have those same video games in other countries that don't have mass shootings? Well, what about violent TV shows? America must lead the world in violence on TV. Or junk food. Everyone knows we have a problem with junk food. Not sure the exact mechanism by which food choices lead to mass shootings, but, hey, what about Hillary's emails?

(12,565 posts)Seriously. This argument, though debunked, keeps showing up again, most recently reguritated by Republican Rep. Steve Womack of Arkansas.
Blame single moms (but not the men who deserted the family), mental health, video games, lack of Christian religion in the schools, the sun coming up in the east.
Just don't use the g-word.

Oh, and don't forget titties on television. And when boys don't get to play with any, they get frustrated.

(4,986 posts)Being in farm country, I'm gonna say what they say about the farmers who are in a world of hurt because of the tariffs: No sympathy. You voted for the mofos who gave you these laws....
The shootings in West Texas took place a day before a series of new state laws easing gun restrictions were set to take effect.
The new laws were passed in August and will go into effect Sunday, September 1.
Among the new laws:
House Bill 1143 says a school district cannot prohibit licensed gun owners, including school employees, from storing a firearm or ammunition in a locked vehicle on a school parking lot -- provided they are not in plain view.
Senate Bill 535 clarifies the possession of firearms at churches, synagogues or other places of worship. It allows licensed handgun owners to legally carry their weapons in places of worship.
House Bill 1387 loosens restrictions on how many armed school marshals a school district can appoint.
House Bill 302 bans homeowners or landlords of rental property from prohibiting residents from lawfully possessing, carrying, transporting or storing a firearm or ammunition on the property.
House Bill 1177 prohibits residents from being charged with a crime for carrying a handgun while evacuating from a state or local disaster area.
House Bill 2363 allows some foster homes to store firearms and ammunition in a safe, locked and secure place for personal protection.
The NRA informed their members of the new laws on Thursday, stating that the bills were protecting your second amendment rights.

(14,488 posts)"Thoughts and Prayers" go no further than the person's brain who is expressing them and may only provide meditative relief for them only. So in that light, "Thoughts and Prayers" are selfish.
One can also express intent to commit to action, as in donations to charity or a gun control organization or to donate blood.
I feel if the victims hear of those type things from fellow citizens it would help far more than "Thoughts and Prayers".

(22,543 posts)but does nothing to help those in actual need.
Even the Bible is clear about this when it says if you meet someone homeless who needs food and clothes and you simply say, "God bless you, be clothed and fed" when you could have done something to feed and clothe them you have done nothing.
