Boston 'straight pride' parade dwarfed by large counter-protest

A controversial “straight pride” parade in Boston on Saturday drew more than 1,000 counter-protesters and a few hundred supporters.

Guarded by hundreds of Boston police officers and berated with yells of “Nazi scum”, the rightwing group made its way to Boston city hall for a speaking program.

Students pressed their noses against windows of Emerson College dorms, next to signs reading “Be gay” and “No need for straight pride”. The school is known for its large LGBTQ student body and inclusivity. Its president, Lee Pelton, issued a letter this week that called the march a “perversion”.

Genevieve Rodriguez and Dan Paglia began arguing, each eventually lightly pushing the other. Paglia, gripping a “Don’t tread on me” flag, was a supporter of the straight pride parade, claiming he had been “villainized and accosted” for being straight.

He claimed to have gay family members. “But we’re just expressing our first amendment rights,” he said, denying he was racist or a white nationalist.

Paglia, OMG!!1! “villainized and accosted” for being straight. Wait wait, let me post that again. “villainized and accosted” for being straight. Oh the poor dear victimized white man haz a sad here. Then he said...OMG!!! He was expressing his first amendment rights. and then...wait for it! Not a racist or a white nationalist. Sure hon.

When you have to state that you are not racist or a white nationalist while participating in a march proclaiming your straight pride, a march that many people mistook as another asinine Trump rally with your tRump floats. Ya have a credibility problem. You are a bigot. A Racist. A white Nationalist. We see you clearly.

Didn't see one person watching the "parade." What a freaking waste of time these losers are.

More than a thousand of us.

They can go to hell!

Reminds me of this one.

Thousands of Counter-Protesters March Against White Nationalism in Boston a Week After Charlottesville

“There was like, what, 50 of them?” Ajewde said, referring to the small free speech rally. “And now out here, there’s maybe three, four, five thousand of us all unified, different colors, different races, different sexualities, everything.”

The Boston Free Speech Coalition, which organized Saturday’s free speech rally, had said it was unrelated to the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. “We will not be offering our platform to racism or bigotry,” organizers wrote on the Facebook page for the event.

But the lineup of speakers drew criticism for including some on the far-right. Kyle Chapman, who describes himself as a “proud American nationalist,” and Joe Biggs, former writer for the right-wing conspiracy theory website InfoWars, were both scheduled to speak. However, the rally dispersed just 45 minutes after it started on Saturday, and it was not immediately clear which speakers had appeared.

“This so-called free speech rally — some of the people speaking have said some very hurtful things about the Jewish community, about the African-American community, about a whole bunch of other communities. And I don’t want them here,” Mayor Walsh said Friday. “I absolutely would not have given them a permit if I didn’t have to give them a permit. We don’t need that type of rhetoric going on in Boston Common. We’ve come too far.”
