The situational awareness and degree of training required to target ONLY the bad shooter in these circumstances challenges the best of trained law officers. The cops knew exactly which car the bad guy was driving. Because there were 2 traffic cops together,
and the bad guy shot only one of them.

What I am saying is the reaction by cops was too slow, allowing the perp to shoot 26 different people for several minutes and several miles of driving in 2 different vehicles.

The cop who was not shot should have chased the runaway bad guy and have the firepower to neutralize the bad guy quickly before shooting so many other people one by one. Way too much time elapsed before the bad guy was neutralized.

A good guy with a little concealed hand gun does not have the firepower to neutralize a speeding car.
That should be the job of the cops.

I am talking generally, about the insanity that good guys with guns are going to stop bad guys in mass shooting situations. Cop is going to know who is the quote good guy unquote and who is the bad guy.

But again I agree completely that police are horribly outgunned in a lot of these situations. Body armor flat-out should be illegal for anyone not in law enforcement, same with high-capacity magazines, assault weapons, Etc.
All this we love the cops bulshit. If they really love cops they'd be for what I just posted.

I much prefer cops respond quickly and have adequate weapons to counter any and all bad guys.
As you correctly point out, cops are outgunned in many situations. That is very very bad.

I do not wish to depend on "good" guys with a gun to protect me. I much prefer a professional law enforcement who is well trained to do that job, and do it quickly. That would give us all a better sense of safety in public places. We are the United States, our cops should be quick and deadly effective in dealing with bad guys. In rare situations, in a small place such as a restaurant, a good guy with a gun who is well trained in use of his handgun could be useful. But none of us should count on that.

I own a small 9 mm hand gun and I never take it out of the house. It is strictly for last resort defense in case my dog alerts me and I at least have a chance to fight with the intruder. In public places, I put my safety in the hands of professional law enforcement.

radio his position and that an officer was down. That cop is not a professional medic. Leave that job of saving the injured cop's life to professional medics. The perp had taken off at high speed, and the fallen cop was obviously in no further danger of being shot again.

People typically carry a handgun for personal self defense, like a small .380, 9mm, or up to a large frame 1911 in .45. It could be suicidal to offensively challenge an active shooter with an AR-15 or AK in the open street under-gunned like that.

Even carrying a defensive handgun, the smart move is to escape the situation if there is a chance to do so. It would be idiotic to get in a gunfight against a rifle with a small handgun.
