New tariffs on shoes, televisions, diapers and other Chinese-made products take effect Sunday

The casualty list from the U.S.-China trade war will include American consumers on Sunday when President Trump’s next round of tariffs on Chinese products takes effect, capping a month of contradictory policy announcements and second thoughts.

At 12:01 a.m., U.S. customs will begin collecting a 15 percent tax on products such as clothing, footwear, pens, pencils, diapers, Bluetooth ear buds, televisions, golf clubs and fishing line. The official list of affected items runs 114 single-spaced pages.

“This is the first time U.S. consumers will see the costs quite directly, right as we head into the busiest shopping time of the year,” said Edward Alden, an economics professor at Western Washington University.

Even as he braces for potential consumer irritation over higher prices, the president on Friday accused business executives who oppose his tariff strategy of blaming him for their own failures.

along with many others we know. We don't have a 15% income margin to simply give away.

Take that straight to your Wall Street analyst......

I have to walk in a wedding; I just found out. (It's cultural for the godparents to walk; I'm not a 66 yr old bridesmaid or anything ). I don't want to wear my athletic shoes.

Anyway the $150 price tag is bad enough and now it's going to be even more!

I read the average family will be paying $1000 extra because of this tax, errr, tariff.

in one move.

Take religious texts like the Bible and the Quran, which were the only kind of publication exempted by trade regulators. Other written works, from pulp fiction to textbooks, were denied clemency.

First, your car (make doesn’t matter) will fall apart when all the Chinese circuitry and plastic are removed, along with varying amounts of steel parts, *poof* there’s just a small pile of rubble.

Your closet and dresser would lose most of your clothes and shoes. Lamps and light bulbs, *poof* gone. Musical instruments, TVs, mobile phones, laptops and desktops, and assorted appliances, *poof* gone. Ceiling fans, electric toothbrushes, hand tools, patio furniture, toys, pet supplies, picture frames, on and on the list goes.

Bottom line: China is our country’s manufacturing center. Imposing tariffs is absolute folly.
