The casualty list from the U.S.-China trade war will include American consumers on Sunday when President Trumps next round of tariffs on Chinese products takes effect, capping a month of contradictory policy announcements and second thoughts.
At 12:01 a.m., U.S. customs will begin collecting a 15 percent tax on products such as clothing, footwear, pens, pencils, diapers, Bluetooth ear buds, televisions, golf clubs and fishing line. The official list of affected items runs 114 single-spaced pages.
This is the first time U.S. consumers will see the costs quite directly, right as we head into the busiest shopping time of the year, said Edward Alden, an economics professor at Western Washington University.
Even as he braces for potential consumer irritation over higher prices, the president on Friday accused business executives who oppose his tariff strategy of blaming him for their own failures.

Anyway the $150 price tag is bad enough and now it's going to be even more!
I read the average family will be paying $1000 extra because of this tax, errr, tariff.

(22,976 posts)First, your car (make doesnt matter) will fall apart when all the Chinese circuitry and plastic are removed, along with varying amounts of steel parts, *poof* theres just a small pile of rubble.
Your closet and dresser would lose most of your clothes and shoes. Lamps and light bulbs, *poof* gone. Musical instruments, TVs, mobile phones, laptops and desktops, and assorted appliances, *poof* gone. Ceiling fans, electric toothbrushes, hand tools, patio furniture, toys, pet supplies, picture frames, on and on the list goes.
Bottom line: China is our countrys manufacturing center. Imposing tariffs is absolute folly.
