We should review the names of legislators from FL, SC, GA, and NC who voted against Hurricane Sandy relief. And remind those states of their votes when they make their inevitable pleas to blue states for hurricane relief.

(14,856 posts)who clearly lack empathy, should be reminded of their disgusting votes to deny hurricane relief? I don't agree.

(17,003 posts)I promise you, its not the politicians. Its the waitress whose apartment was destroyed along with all her belongings and her place of employment. Its the family who is still, 10 months later, living out of their car. Its constant flooding every time it rains because the drainage ditches and storm sewers are still clogged. Its an insane number of mosquitos and fucking gnats because of all the damn standing water. Its fear of crazy ass fires because all those trees that got blown over are nothing more than kindling now. Its limited medical care because along with homes and businesses that were demolished so were the hospitals. So yeah, I want some fucking empathy.

(36,745 posts)I would strongly start to consider a moratorium on writing policies for ANY new or replacement constructs within 35 miles or less of the coastline.
We all know whats coming. It is time to start setting up a buffer zone.
The hurricanes are going to get worse and the flooding with sea level rise will as well.
If you want to build in that zone, you should assume the liability.

(25,855 posts)It's not as though hurricanes first started occurring in 1990 or so. They've been around for millions of years, and have been an acknowledged danger since humans occupied this continent.
People who want to live in a hurricane zone need to understand the risks. Period. Just as those who live in known earthquake or tornado zones need to understand those risks.

(16,199 posts)That would eliminate the entire state of Rhode Island. It also doesnt take topography into account. I live 10 miles inland in Connecticut and have 500 feet of elevation from sea level. No storm surge is going to get me.

(14,490 posts)the emergency largess will flow into their districts by the truckload and corruption will abound.
And, we'll never hear the end of it with endless photo ops as they fly in after the storm wearing hardhats and yellow vests while getting in first responder's way. Tots and pears will flow non-stop until campaign contributions are no longer on the rise.
It's a shame the MSM rarely calls them out for their lying, deception and hypocrisy......
