(53,471 posts)every year. Is this normal as the deleted post seemed to be saying?
I've always thought Labor Day was declared decades ago as happening in the first week of Sept.

(12,712 posts)Now he has "proclamations" on his teeny little mind-boil and that might swirl the detritus around in there and start dredging up ideas about Monarchs and such and the hereby proclaim could be the end of us all

(63,221 posts)I thought it was a set holiday. Not challenging you, just curious as to why the annual ritual?

(42,375 posts)You might be shocked at the number of presidential proclamations issued in a given year, and the subject matter of those proclamations.
In some instances, federal law (5 USC 101-145) "requests" that the president issue an annual proclamation declaring a particular day, week, or month as "X" day, week or month. The listed subjects of such proclamations include those that are not federal holidays (such as mothers day and fathers day) as well as a few that are federal holidays (such as Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day). Other days, recognized in 5 USC 6103 as federal government holidays include some that are traditionally the subject of presidential proclamations (such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day) as well as some that are not typically the subject of proclamations (New Year's Day, Christmas Day).
Whatever the reason, Trump's proclamation was not out of the ordinary, despite what some of the posts in this thread appear to assume.

(63,221 posts)However, you can't blame people for thinking he's an idiot in this particular case because almost everything he does is stupid, cruel, poorly thought out or just flat out wrong.
