Most mass murderers plan to die in the attacks anyway.

Utter bullshit. Not to mention control over the process after a death sentence has been passed is all about the Judiciary not the Executive branch, including Barr and his corrupted DOJ.

It seems pretty clear that a fear of their own death does not deter mass shooters. By and large they are counting on it. If anything a certain life time prison sentence might be more of a deterrent than this.

trot out someone else to punish in their minds since it will rarely happen in practice, something to blame other than their own sick little weapon habits, an authority figure to tell them how they are true Instruments of Justice.

and Justice has nothing to say about them? Terrorism may be federal, but then they have to admit this is terrorism.

And, as others have said, these are mostly suicide attacks anyway. There are no real records of "suicide by cop" but everyone pretty much knows it happens.

Personally, I have always been against the death penalty and see no more reason to kill the killers than the killers saw to kill the victims. I would prefer to see them locked away in a mental health facility and studied to see what makes them tick.

They want to or expect to die in their last act of revenge against society. The death penalty will not be a deterrent to people like this.
