I took little dog (RIP) and bugged out to Asheville, NC, to stay with a cousin. SO and DS stayed behind with big dog.

I stayed a week - in September - didn't want to leave. Some things are just in one's DNA, I think.

We have mountains in Florida that are measured in feet just like everywhere else. The only problem is, our mountains are sort of teeny-tiny.

Specifically its tall thunderheads that billow every summer. No other state comes close in terms of its cloudscape.

As you say, it’s all a matter of perspective...

Many islanders will have to leave their homes forever as climate change destroys islands completely. Other islands will sink and disappear. It's already happening.

I have been around those islands on a live aboard dive boat (what a coincidence that) and we went back once with our boys for their first ocean experience and taught them to snorkel. The people in the Bahamas are so kind and friendly. While we were there with our boys a hurricane decided to head toward the islands. We stayed as long as we could but bugged out almost too late, that one picked up speed. We took off in a little puddle jumper of a plane on a runway that was hard to see for all the rain and standing water. It was an interesting flight the airport we left had not one person around except the person who took our money and exchanged our ticket and Miami was even pretty slow. That plane ride about did me in since I do not fly comfortably anyway. That is one teeny tiny experience that would not even count but I can imagine and I feel just awful for them. I hope the people can survive this. If they do they will still have to wait for supplies.

After last year I am just happy this is not headed your way or towards my precious Tortola. I hope this season stays far away from you all.
