question everything

I am wondering whether we should concentrate on the senate, more than on the presidency

Even if we send Trump packing (perhaps under military guard) and the turtle still controls the senate we will not be able to do anything, or not much. Even if some Republicans regain their spine it is up to the turtle to even bring a topic to the floor.

Apparently there are enough seats in play that can make it possible.

Yes, we want both but it does not appear, at this point, that many credible candidates consider running for the senate.

Hope some will.

Our efforts are by necessity "top-heavy" in their focus, but damn, the damage starts at the state level and gets exported right up the "chain."

Getting rid of Trump AND McConnell would be awesome (and not entirely impossible), but getting rid of Trump will get rid of an imminent danger and we can fix a lot of what Trump blew up within the Federal Government administratively. But if we can get rid of McConnell completely (not just make him Minority Leader again), we would remove a HUGE roadblock to progressive progress in this country. We are still going to have to figure out a way to deal with Republican obstructionism because, even if we win the Senate, we won't have a filibuster-proof chamber, unfortunately, and *some* Republican will make things as difficult for the new Democratic President.

OT: Who would replace McConnell as a Republican leader if he lost BTW?

We know that he has no firm beliefs. He changes them as fast as... well, twitting.

He may decide to revert to his old - Democrat, pro-choice, looking at Canada for health care - self

He wants a legacy and working with a Democratic Congress, actually achieving something all of a sudden will appeal to him.

Oh, and we can impeach him..

Miller, Barr and others. Then there is still Moscow Mitch and the filibuster if he becomes minority leader.

IMO we need to take both the WH and Senate.

I remember Republicans and their backers focused a lot of resources on state elections. They knew the census was coming that year and state elections would determine how much gerrymandering they'd be able to do--with long-term consequences.
