21 Conservative MPs defied Boris and voted against him. Can' imagine 21 Republican congress critters defying Trump.

(11,744 posts)Many Republicans sit in seats that require a 4% to 7% margin of victory for their opponent to take their seat, if they even have an opponent from the opposition party. While I do not claim to know much about Parliamentary elections, I seriously doubt that there is Gerrymandering to the extent that there is in US Representative elections. While the Senate elections are state wide and not subject to Gerrymandering, there is still the issue of incumbency and millions in PAC money that Republicans holding office have as an advantage to any challenger.
I actually think that the Senate is in serious play this cycle but to the point, Republicans in the US only have to know who bought them their seat and how to cheat well enough to eek through a victory.

Much for the most part was true with W until 2006. There were a few that had gravitas in their district who could go against the President. I don't think there is a sing GOP legislator left with that type of gravitas.

I agree that Trump will ultimately lose favor with the wealthy because he is destabilizing the flow of business, but while there is money to be made, most of them will stay quiet and wait.
