Why did El Presidente insist on putting Alabama in the path of Hurricane Dorian?
His pattern has been to create lies to supplement lies he plans on telling in the near future. He likes people to think of him as a seer, who can predict the future.
Most of all, at this specific time, he is more concerned about his next election than anything else in the world. He is desperate about it.
Alabama just happens to be one of his chosen targets, along with Florida and Ohio and Pennsylvania. So when he goes to Alabama in a few days, or a few weeks, he can tell them that he was prepared to protect them if the Hurricane came into their state. He will do anything to curry favor with the voters.

(32,075 posts)D. It just popped into his head, so he blurted it out, without thinking. Blurting out random shit is not unusual behavior for him.
And, yes. He is a moron, although I think that's actually being generous.

(5,518 posts)Alabama already will vote for him regardless of any smoke blown up their ass. Any scenario where he loses that state would be an enormous landslide anyway.
There was no grand plan. He looked idiotic and ill informed at a briefing. All the rest is him trying to reinvent reality to save his ego.
I think the likelihood is that he mixed up Georgia ( in the path) with Alabama (dry as a bone). The fact that an American president cant identity a state on a map was too embarrassing to let stand. But in the end, he has only brought more attention to it as he has insisted he was correct.

(111,055 posts)So that could be the case?
Why is this "lie" getting more attention than his other lies?
genxlib
(5,518 posts)The main one is that people pay attention to the pending critical weather in a way that they do not pay attention to politics. After paying attention to the Weather Channels nonstop for a week, virtually everyone immediately knew he was wrong.
Besides that, I think it would have passed as well, but his insistence on repeating it multiple times just kept it in the news.
Then finally, his clownish attempt to prove himself right became a perfect storm for meme worthy ridicule.
Bottom line... he is stupid and he is a liar. This was both and blatantly obvious to boot

(42,603 posts)So its not likely that he "mixed up" the two states. What is most likely is that someone showed him the early spaghetti maps and neither that person nor he understood what those maps meant and he ignored the later information he was given that showed that Alabama was well outside the storm's track.

It made him appear as if he had not looked at a recent map of the Hurricane in 3 or 4 days? On vacation as a national disaster was ready to strike? Golfing?

One lie led to several others and yet again exposed him as the King of Cons.

(58,785 posts)popular in Alabama, but who knows? Maybe that "They love me in Alabama" is why that state popped into his head and then out his mouth in his usual train of consciousness babble. In 2016 he kept wanting to go back again and again to campaign where "they love me," instead of where he needed to.
Overall, though, I think it's fair to assume that Trump just hadn't been paying enough attention to know Cat-5 Dorian was headed up the Atlantic coast, or care one way or the other.
It does appear that way.

This stage begins when symptoms from the secondary stage disappear. Syphilis isnt contagious at this point, but the infection has started to affect your organs. This can lead to death. Symptoms of tertiary syphilis may include:
Problems controlling muscle movements
Numbness

(70,449 posts)His tongue seems "thick" when he tries to talk, a large % of his vocabulary is collapsing into
few words or phrases... terrific, great, tremendous, I have spoken to people (with out saying
which people), biggest, and so on... he is unsteady on his feet and it looks like he has taken
a fall, and he drew a line on a National Weather Service Map thinking that it would fool people
about a Hurricane's projected path.
Why's it so hard for us to say out loud that Trump has lost his mind?
