9. My theory on why he lies is that he has been put in this position of power now and

there are always microphones in front of him. He has absolutely no idea whatsoever what is going on, but thinks he has to be talking at all times so he falls back on his salesman training and just keeps talking nonstop.
This and he is a sociopath with no morals of any kind.
