1. He doesn't care about Alabama. He misunderstood an early FEMA briefing

as meaning AL would be hit hard by the hurricane, but when the NWS issued a correction he had a hissy fit, then altered a weather map with a Sharpie marker. What's going on is that he can't stand to be wrong.

He could have said the hurricane was going to devastate Minneapolis, and then would have done everything he could do, including get some government employee to make up a bullshit story, to make him look like he was right.

He is simply incapable of admitting he has made a mistake. As one commentator said in the last couple days, you can count on one had the number of times he has publicly admitted he was wrong about something.

I've noticed this allows him to lie about the most inane and trivial things.
