LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that European nations should consider funding projects in their countries after the Pentagon diverted money to pay for a border wall with Mexico.
The Pentagon said on Wednesday it would pull funding from 127 Defense Department projects abroad and at home, including schools and daycare centers for military families, as it diverts $3.6 billion to pay for President Donald Trumps wall along the U.S. border.
Trump has made immigration a signature issue of his presidency. He declared a national emergency over the issue earlier this year in an effort to redirect funding from Congress to build a wall along the U.S. southern border, which he originally said would be paid for by Mexico.
The message that Ive been carrying, since when I was acting secretary to today, has been about the increase in burden sharing, Esper told reporters in London late on Thursday.

(12,712 posts)Let's see now. Hmm...
What was the motivation for the US Empire to have 800+ military bases across the globe merely a selfless act to protect other countries? Surely there was no vested interest involved in doing so. It was a rather selfless act in order to protect the freedoms of others.
Really, burden sharing for our strategic benefit and goals? Trumpthink is really catching and Esper's newspeak is stretching it.
We already spend more on our military than seven countries combined, and it is over half our budget. Awww, we need help? Maybe we need more cost control and management, etc., rather than big-ticket free for all in defense contracting?
Come on folks, can ya' help a country out here? Maybe begging more would help? Spare some change?
