America is a lie

There is no Santa Claus, no Tooth Fairy, and no America.

We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America- Barack Obama, DNC, 2004.

I gave up believing in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy when I was six. I gave up believing in 'one people' in 2016. In all poll after poll, 42% approve of trump. 'America' is a LIE.

1. The "founding fathers" whether by pragmatic compromise or deep conviction, agreed nonetheless

that, and choose your own adventure, either a) humans could be owned by other humans as property OR b) Africans and possibly others were not human.

By any contemporary interpretation of the past, "America" has ALWAYS been a lie of *some* sort.

These right wing reactionary assholes who look backwards for the "IDEAL" America are fucking it up. We should look to the future -- of what CAN BE, even if perhaps we will not see it ourselves. "We" will get there, even if it is not us (though I'd like it to hurry the fuck up so it might be us, of course).

But not by some belief/faith/hope in what America was or is, but what America WILL BE. "America" *has* been a lie. Let us make it not so *going forward*.

6. The way I see it is we keep waiting for a collapse

but in fact the collapse has already occurred. It wasn't trump that brought about the collapse, he is only one of it's results. I'm glad to see others are no longer fooled by the illusion.
