Mystery surrounds lost German sea data station

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-49592330

The seabed "observatory", worth about €300,000 (£270,000), weighed more than half a tonne. It could not have been dragged off by a storm, tide or large animal, German experts say.

Divers only found a torn power cable at the site, 22m (72ft) down and 1.8km (1.2 miles) offshore.

It is a prohibited area, north of Kiel.

No boats - not even local fishing boats - are allowed into the area, called Eckernförde Bay, about 70km (44 miles) south of the Danish border.

I am impressed. Now YOU know what you’re talking about. Refreshing in this world of fabricated bullshit by know-nothings.

I hate when someone says: I don’t know anything about (fill in the blank) but I think...”

The notion of an anchor snag wouldn’t occur to me in 500 years, because I know nothing about the technical aspect of nautical science or boating/shipping.

I’m filing that away under fun facts that I normally would not know. Makes all the sense in the world. Love that stuff. Thx.
