Massive, intense, and devastating hurricanes will become standard fare in the Caribbean and subtropical zones. Last year it was Puerto Rico, this year, the Bahamas. Why rebuild on those islands when, in any given year, a hurricane will come roaring through and level everything again?

These are new times at the onset of world-wide climate change. This should be what to expect in the next year and the year after that.

Our collective capacity to explore the wild depths of stupidity by allowing Trumpy to get more than 15% of the vote will be our lasting legacy, and may be what spells our doom as a species.

Truck after van after car were being loading up with supplies and heading to the Airport. You could see huge walls of bottled water disappearing into vehicles and off they'd go.

This has to be an absolutely crippling blow to life in those islands and it's giving myself and others here in South Florida pause. That could easily have been us and it's becoming more and more clear every year that it's only a matter of time before it is. We are seriously considering heading to Cali where my daughter and husband now reside, earthquakes and fires be damned.

As a child I wondered why the trees here seemed so much smaller than everywhere else I traveled to and for the longest time I figured that it probably just had something to do with the nutrient poor, rather sandy soil we're blessed with. I eventually came to the realization however, that those poor trees just never got the chance to grow for more than 20 years before being seriously trimmed by a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane.

There's no winning a battle with one of those monsters.

snip of article:

The M.O. of the Trump administration is to ratchet up conflict wherever it can, from enforcing visa requirements after the devastation in the Bahamas, to extorting opposition investigations in Ukraine, and now trying to incite more violence from the Taliban. It may be the only way Trump can gain reelection in 2020.

Follow @BrianEntin who is reporting from the Bahamas that people seeking refuge from the hurricane & who would normally be permitted to enter the US without a visa, are being forced off the ferry in Freeport. So sadly on brand for the Trump administration. https://t.co/yNdXiyQb28
