BREAKING: Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick will defy the @NRA and take the lead on gun background checks: "I'm a solid NRA guy, but not expanding the background check to eliminate the stranger to stranger sale makes no sense to me and ... most folks." #txlegehttps://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2019/09/06/texas-lt-gov-dan-patrick-says-he-will-defy-nra-take-lead-on-gun-background-checks/

(21,692 posts)I do think it is interesting that Dan Patrick, who made his political bones as a right wing crank, would be concerned at all of his position on gun issues.
Either:
A) The NRA is out of money and he didn't get his check.
Or:
B) The Texas Republicans have polling that indicates the gun issue could turn Texas votes in the next election.

(12,712 posts)when nobody in office, who is his right mind at least, would express allegiance for, or affiliation to, a terrorist organization like the NRA simply because it has become clear that it has transformed, since the 80's, into an extremist, subversive threat to the health and safety to more Americans than any other out in the open organization today.
Being a "solid NRA guy" is not a positive form of identification to me, glimmers or not, because it means that promiscuous gun-toting and fundamentalist views are promoted as taking priority to the interests of the many in order to satisfy the few. The NRA has become a source of shame for this country and that is nothing to celebrate unless frequent deaths of adults and children, shattered and traumatized families, and a legacy of fear and paranoia is what you intend for this county as a whole.
