Trump is so callous and open about his corruption and lawlessness now that it could be a foreboding portent of the future. Sycophantic minions are installed in key positions of government so that federal offices will do his bidding no matter how illegal and destructive as recent events have demonstrated. The NOAA announcement affirming Trump's lie, the military refueling at a Trump property, Vice President and Attorney General openly paying fealty to Trump at his properties all testify to this.
In the last election Trump had help from the Russians but he had no personal power over the election itself. The next one will be different. He will do everything within his power, legal or not, to corrupt the system and ensure that he is the winner. As president he will have a powerful ability to do this, especially since federal offices are willing to assist him and the Republican Senate apparently gives their approval. The states run elections and he has no legal influence over them but objections to a state run federal election will be brought up to the federal level where Trump has control. This is one way he could disrupt the results and I'm sure his team is working on more plans that aren't as obvious.
Democrats seem to be playing a long, slow, careful game against a wild, rampaging tiger. I fear that once they bring their carefully measured cases to trial, at best Trump and his gang will drag them out until after the election. At worst they will tear them to shreds with lies and misinformation that are supported by the many complicit federal judges that Trump has installed, including the Supreme Court.
This is essentially a coup of the US government and it has a good chance of succeeding since the opposition, though massive and vocal, has no ability to restrain the torrent of unprecedented corruption as long as the Republican controlled Senate condones it.
The only possible hope is that enough Senate Republicans stand up from their subservient cowering and join Democrats in eliminating this illegal overthrow of the American government but so far there is no indication that they will. Republicans seem content for the American form of government, which has been emulated all over the world, is eliminated and replaced by a insane, autocratic dictatorship.

(9,360 posts)lies lies and stop with the normalization of this lunatic the country is in for another 4 years of the Orange Menace. I really hate to bank my hopes on them but at this point I for one think that is where this ignoramus country of ours is at.

(13,565 posts)So far in this short thread, posters have called on the MSM and Congress to stop him.
Hello!
The stopping of him is going to be up to US. Rising up.
Congress only has enough power if the people will provide cover.
Media can only go after him full-throatedly if the people will demand it and provide cover.
It's time. Our time in the barrel.
243 years ago every citizen had to either choose to stand for liberty, or accept tyranny.
Their lives, their fortunes, their sacred honor were offered in the cause.
It's our turn.

(11,544 posts)It isn't just becoming serious, it has been serious since day 1 just as many (including Hilary Clinton) warned. Everything since has been a flashing red flag to alert us to danger. Too many refuse to take it seriously or are complicit. This won't sort itself out and by the time we take to the streets (like in Hong Kong), or if we do, it will be too late.
We need to do all we can right now.
Ideas?

(1,524 posts)...the matter. When asked why we want Trump out of office and prosecuted, our answer should be "because of his "lawlessness". In this country we pursue and prosecute people who break the law.

All of them kept in straight jackets so they can't pull an Epstein.
We will hire our bestest to lord over them for meal time and other things!
Give them lots of cameras too, a 24/7 feed to let the nation keep an eye on them, as a kind gesture, since they seem to like that sort of thing.
Oops forgot to mention the ball gags as part of the SJ apparatus, we can't have them actually speaking ever again, something about overexposure and the sound of their voices being a major turnoff to viewership as very long exhausted studies have shown?
I'm was happy for Iowa when they won the random lottery to host:
The new TV series:
Executions: American Style
I hear Season 2's opener is something else even after that cliff hanger in the 1st, please tune in!
Fans are delighted and you can't go anywhere without those rainbow T-Shirts, now so popular, and everyone is living their bestest life well except those shitheads, but even steven in the end once we took back all the ill gotten gains of all involved, turns out we are all rich when it got evenly divided back up, what a country!
The corruption was so rampant these 100 episode seasons might be too short?

(342 posts)We can't depend or rely on the media. We can't depend on government agencies or offices. We can't depend on Congress. We can't depend on the democratically controlled House either. When it gets really bad it will come down to us...the people....getting in the streets. We will need to turn Trump's chaos right back on him and the republicans. We will have to disrupt "normal" just like Trump and the republicans have disrupted normal.
When Cohen said that Trump isn't going to leave office peacefully....I believe him.
No one is going to ride in and rescue we the people. It has always been within our power to change this..

(1,736 posts)If a serious movement for change happens, it won't start with Congress or the mainstream press. The learned helplessness is settled in so deep within the opposition that just recognizing this dire mess for what it is takes way too long.

(1,727 posts)good luck finding Stand-up republicans - it is a physical, scientific impossibility, as they
ALL lack spines; we are in the thick of a HOSTILE TAKEOVER, and a proper response requires more than dithering about strategy; the powers of civil society are being redistributed as the spoils of lawlessness; Putinsteins Monster knows no compunction from any source, and so
the only fruit for harvest is destruction - the beast has been loosed, and will not stop of its
own volition, or heed the call of of its liberators.
