(2,870 posts)in a mind-numbingly red state. It is a lot redder shade of purple than most college towns. By comparison, Austin TX is a spot of actual blue in that still red state to the south.

(8,692 posts)It is nothing short of miraculous that each and every election our side rises to the occasion and doesn't merely find a candidate that is equal to or worse than Dana Rohrabacher... but is spectacularly worse than Dana Rohrabacher. The Republicans threw him overboard in 2006 and 2008 and still he won!
So how did this disheveled loser who can't open his mouth without sounding like he has brain damage win?
Well, why don't you ask these two?

(114,904 posts)in fact, my whole state is blue. My town went 972 to 459 for Obama in 2008, and it's a rural place with lots of loggers and farmers, though there's probably as many old hippies and neo-hippies. Obama carried every county in the state by a margin of 60%+- except for one where he only got 56%.

(243 posts)Seattle, WA is solidly blue, as is most of Western Wa. Eastern WA tends to be red but there are more people in the western portion.

(25,415 posts)and the 5th district. It has been red in the past in Presidential elections but did go for Gore, Kerry and Obama. There is some expensive homes in the Farmington Valley area and even in some of the small towns in the Litchfield Hills. It also has some working class areas like Meriden and New Britain. In the past, there has been Republican Representatives. I hope this area stays blue again but the local elections almost all went to Repubs last time

(11,411 posts)At around 60%. This is rural Wisconsin.
People tend to assume that the whole area is Republican so they are more vocal and proud of their politics. Obviously there are a fair amount of Democrats too, but many seem to be in hiding or something. I think that even if we aren't picking fights with people, it is important to be proud of who we are rather than being quiet and "passing".

(2,372 posts)(Carson City, Nevada). Obama won the city/county by 161 votes last time. I hope it is close again!

(108,036 posts)a Republican can get elected here if he/she is not too much of a whack job. I might add those types of Republicans are becoming rarer.

(10,005 posts)There is joke among poll workers that they can tell who died since the last election by the number who voted at different times during the day.

(34,857 posts)Salt Lake City is as blue as it gets - no Republicans representing us in the state legislature, no Republican mayor since the 70s and a fairly liberal city council. Salt Lake County is purple ... our mayor (county mayor, we have city mayors and then county mayors) is a Democrat, but the Republican might win this November and the county council shifted Republican in 2010. My congressional district leans Republican, but I have a Democrat representing me (if you can call him that).

(7,549 posts)but the towns, villages, and suburbs are mostly red, although some did go for Kerry and Obama, in the Presidential elections so I guess that makes us Purple. Currently we are stuck with an ass hat Tea Partier as Congressional Representative but due to redistricting he will no longer be my representative. Unfortunately my guess is the new Puke will win, but I am hoping not.
I have been asked to volunteer for Democratic challenger and I said yes!

The town itself - you'd think a college town would be a little more blue. Incomes are higher than average, though, and I think that accounts for it not being bluer.
