(6,617 posts)My son and his family live in Tokyo. He tends to be pretty low drama, but youd think he would have at least mentioned it when we chatted last night. 😟 Good thing Ill never run out of things to worry about.

(7,802 posts)I lived in Tokyo for 3 years way back in the early 1980s. I was there when one made landfall near Osaka, but I couldn't get any sleep because the winds were literally howling.
The country is in a hurricane-prone area and they know it. They're prepared. Japan conducts emergency drills of all kinds all the time.

(6,617 posts)They finally texted me back (seems they werent up all night just waiting to reply to texts from mom). They said it was super windy and pouring rain, but that they were fine. It sounded like they anticipated just about three more hours of it before it was to move off.
There was a little earthquake when I visited last October, but next month when I go for another visit, I dont really feel I need to experience a typhoon for myself. 😳
