I would think they would be extremely powerful and it's going to hurt their business and the economy a lot by cutting food stamps.

(6,110 posts)I thought food stamp eligibility is determined by a law passed through congress.
When more people's income goes above the eligibility level, less food stamps are given out.

(34,661 posts)lobby big time at the State and Local levels. Kroger and Albertson are debt laden and efforts to keep interest rates at close to zero is more important than who what where or how their customers come through the door.
Walmart and Target do get the lions share of the SNAP program in many areas. There are a hand full of Regional Retailers who out preform these two,but again it varies by region.
