Two mountain lion sightings reported in Golden Gate Park, Lake Merced in recent weeks

Two mountain lion sightings have been reported in San Francisco parks since Aug. 21, officials said.

One spotting occurred on the west end of Golden Gate Park on Tuesday, and the other was reported at Lake Merced on Aug. 21, according to the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.

The animal was not aggressive toward humans in either instance, the department said.

It’s normal for mountain lions to come and go from natural areas in the city, officials said, and they should move out of the area soon if they haven’t already.

Mountain lions are shy and solitary animals that try to avoid people, said Peter Tira, information officer for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
