But this story illustrates another dimension to the ways federal officials have had to accommodate Trump: They have been forced to defend the United States of America, its government and its interests from the president himself. As we have learned, this is a task of enormous difficulty and complexity; in a case like this, there are risks to national security and even lives.
And for what? To serve Trumps embarrassing man-crush on Putin?
Try to imagine something similar happening with any other president from either party. Imagine American intelligence officials saying Wed better exfiltrate this spy we have in the Kremlin before the president tells the Russians about him if the president was Obama or Bush or Clinton or Reagan or Nixon or any other. You cant do it.
Its in part because of events such as this one that Im certain history will judge Trump to be the worst president America has had in 230 years. Not just corrupt, not just ignorant, not just impulsive, not just divisive, not just bigoted, not just juvenile and petty and vindictive, but someone so untrustworthy that he couldnt even be relied on to not spill intelligence secrets to our adversaries.
Some people assert that Trump is in fact a Russian asset; whether you agree will depend on how you define the term. But it has become clear that across the government and the country, everyone has had to adjust their expectations and actions to the fact that the president of the United States simply cannot be trusted to uphold Americas interests, if doing so conflicts with his greed, or his desire to please a foreign dictator, or simply some whim he had while watching Fox & Friends.
It may be some time before we understand the full extent of the damage that has caused.

(52,195 posts)It's one thing for one person to be a sick f*ck and completely the wrong person for the job.
It's another thing for every other politician in that party to say we don't care, we're not even going to replace him with another member of our own party, we're sticking with the sick f*ck.
While I loathe Donnie as president, really who can blame him for wanting to become president? And the reality is that people like that are going to cheat if they are surrounded by enablers.
It's foxnews, hate radio, right-wing billionaires, and republican politicians who are the ones who should have and should now know better.

(38,414 posts)..Did Mr. Trump say something about grabbing a woman's pussy? publically? Did he say that? When?
Trump said that in 2005 in an interview that was heard by the country on October 6 - 10 2016...So, every single person who voted for him knew he was a "sick f*ck. (as well as people who knew about this and others who knew other sick f**k things he said and did.

(31,974 posts)You can find articles and books by credible historians for and against most U.S. presidents. The same will hold true for Trump. I know of no president that is treated like an angel by history.

(38,414 posts)order to start a useless war. And Bush started that war without getting absolute proof of those weapons of mass destruction. Think about that one? His Secretary of State is not heard about because of that lie. A lie that killed thousands..
....Not a pen mark that looks stupid on a map. The f**ken Association has got their values mixed up. One more point. Bush gives very few interview because I read he doesn't want to be questioned about his lie that killed thousands
...Bush is a quiet recluse. He will give a short speech for a couple hundred thousand dollars, but few if no interviews. I read he does not want questions on the start of the war, so few if no interviews.

Here's the part that nails that thing in our White House: "or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort". You can find many, many "overt act[s]" he has committed to aid enemies of the U.S. just by reading the news since inauguration day.
