I spent many years driving back and forth from FL to NC as two of my kids went to college up there (one just graduated last year and the other finished grad school a few years back) and I couldn't help but notice how it felt more and more openly progressive each year I drove up there. I really hope that my observation wasn't just wishful thinking and NC can go from red to blue.

That one has largely flown under the radar. Wouldn't it be delicious if we picked up TWO districts on the same day?? Haha

But I can dream. Last time I checked the early voting stats, roughly the same number of Dems and Reps had voted. This is likely to be a low turnout affair. And as Trump has proven again and again, anything is possible!

offer to phonebank at your local democratic headquarters. You'll meet nice people and might be the deciding factor in getting elected officials, democrats, that work for the people, not special interest corporations.

So there are paper ballots. Exception being Mecklenburg county where touch screens are used but the machine does create a paper trail (like a checkout receipt).

Murphy up by 19 points, 10,000 votes. Keeping fingers crossed for the McCready numbers. Up by 1.5, about 1000 votes.

McCready is up by larger margins than last time in almost all the precincts, and the Mecklenburg votes aren't in yet! Looking good! I'd love to see him take this for all the usual reasons, but mostly to see Trump denying he ever supported Bishop

We won't have overconfidence into 2020. That we don't often win elections or special elections in the south is not news. Heck, we are COMPETITIVE here! Republicans have window dressing to give them public relations protection. Trump and GOP spending and political ads motivate Democrats even more.

Republicans just spent big money to win a seat they cheated to win in 2018, and their victor will seat for a year and then face reelection where they have to spend again. This is a war of attrition.

Have they looked for stuffed ballot boxes last night yet?

I think we'll have a better shot at this district in 2020 when everybody turns out to boot Trump. Don't know if McCready is up to running again , though. NC Dems definitely need to head down to Robeson county and find out what the hell happened. They went for McCready +15 last year but only 1.1 this year. It lost him the race.
