NC-09 2018 vs 2019

NC-09 by the numbers,2018 vs. 2019
2018:
Total
Harris 139246 - 49.3%
McCready 138341 - 48.9%
Other 5130 - 1.8%
Total cast: 282717

By county (2 largest):
Mecklenberg:
Harris 42668 – 44.38%
McCready 51856 – 53.93%
Other 1626 - 1.69%
Total cast: 96150

Union
Harris 51645 – 59.12%
McCready 34126 – 39.06%
Other 1589 - 1.82%
Total cast: 87360

2019 (still a few voted to be counted but this is close):
Total
Bishop 94984 - 50.8%
McCready 90824 - 48.6%
Other 1120 – 0.6%
Total cast: 186928

By county (2 largest):
Mecklenberg:
Bishop 27663 – 43.4%
McCready 35666 – 56%
Other 391 – 0.6%
Total cast: 63720

Union
Bishop 36165 – 59.9%
McCready 23751 – 39.4%
Other 411 – 0.7%
Total cast: 60327

So Mecklenberg saw a 34% dropoff in ballots cast and union 31%. The election total was down 34%. So more or less 1/3 of the people that voted in 2018 didn't show up for the special election but both parties saw about the same dropoff. Bishop did about 1% better in his stronghold and McCready 1% better in his.

McCready needed a stronger turnout in Mecklenberg which he didn't get. In essence the vote rigging scandal didn't move anyone to our side and bishop actually did better seemingly siphoning off about 1% of the third party voters over to his camp.
Very frustrating………. To get this close to a solid red district but come up just a little short again.

in the regular election? The results still need to be certified before the "winner" can be seated.

I live in Arizona so it doesn't matter but most people aren't political junkies like DU users. It is not uncommon for special elections to have lower turnout than a general election.

6. It was that election where there was fraud, it was a huge story.

Wikipedia

"Because of the allegations and the subsequent confirmation that Republican election fraud did take place, the race received substantial national attention."
