Television is the worst; we're lucky that there are still some journalists who write and are not owned by Koch.

PS: I am not in her district, but I sent a donation to her campaign anyway. I'm getting an enamel pin of her in that red coat putting on her sunglasses -- I plan to pin it on my hat.

And I just gotta reward this with another donation to Tough as Nails Nancy. Here's my communication to her:
Dear Speaker Pelosi:
I just saw your response to the reporter who asked you about keeping the Congressional flame lit by keeping Congress in session to address gun violence.
Your response is appropriate and to the point. Thank you for throwing the question back onto Mitch McConnell and the Republicans.
You have inspired me to make another contribution to you. I am a proud, Democratic, voting member of your district.
Thank you, NBachers

(58,785 posts)it many times. Do you realize that the "explanations" some people here prefer are those given, not by her, but by the Republicans, the Russians, hostile LW populists, and venal and corrupt media?
How likely do you really think it is that our leaders in congress are hopelessly incompetent and scared to act? The Republicans have stopped following rules and procedures and resort to massively corrupt, fascistic tactics specifically precisely because Democrats are smarter and better at democracy than they are. When Bill Clinton wasn't fooling with his zipper, he was turning their ruthless attacks into victory after victory; the only wins they had were achieved through massive misuse and corruption of power. A big, final repeat of lessons we'd already given them. McConnell and Ryan committed to scorched earth under Obama, and he still won against them. Losses both in government and in elections have forced them to subversion of democracy because they can't win that way and we can.
Yes, we're all frustrated that the results of the Mueller Report severely set back our plans for impeachment. But if some in their frustration are going to regurgitate this hostile pack journalism and RW theme every day, they should please at least recognize and admit it for what it is.
I'm frustrated also, but I have grandchildren who have to live with what we leave them, and I won't carry water for our very dangerous enemies in these critical times.

(82,849 posts)She was the reporter who had pursued President John Quincy Adams for an interview, and he stiffed her at every turn. Adams liked to go skinny dipping in the Potomac, so Royall went down to the banks of the river, and sat on Adams' clothes. She wouldn't budge until Adams answered her questions.
The 21st century is a far different world.

(11,512 posts)This is not to discredit the few hardworking and dedicated journalists. The issue is the media corporations that slant conservative and dont always give a full picture. Many important stories are never covered. In this era of 24/7 coverage, most of it is mental junk food designed to increase consumerism and profits. We are full of news yet starving for the truth.

(3,055 posts)They should ask that fucking coward why HE isn't doing HIS job? Why does he suddenly need POTUS' permission to bring a bill up for a vote? Because that's what he's saying when he claims it's all "theater" to bring up a bill that the pResident won't sign.

(24,238 posts)You or I don't get to decide what is a reputable journalistic source. Nor does any other one person. So as long as there is a 1st amendment, these situations will exist. And it also means that Nancy Pelosi had the right to say what she said. She was absolutely right and handled it well.

(14,487 posts)because he blocked me too, and I have no idea why. (FTR, I am talking about @notcapnamerica, since there are multiple Chris Evans on Twitter.)
I don't think I have ever interacted with him. It is possible I replied or retweeted something from him, but nothing all that memorable. I did find in my google search results that he is a Bernie fan, and I am not, so maybe it was something about that? He must be pretty thin-skinned, because I found several people posting that they have no idea why they were blocked!

(135,791 posts)Chuck Rosenberg was talking about the lack of congress moving on guns....Maloney interrupted and said he loved Chuck but this is ALL ON MITCH McCONNELL.
Went off on the media saying it was congress when it is the REPUBLICANS in congress and that Democrats in congress had passed a gun bill
in February that McConnell wouldn't allow a vote on....as with all the other bills the Dems had passed.
He was passionate about it.
We can't forget how the media gave trump $2billion in free airtime in the 2016 election....the horse race has been very good for them.

(1,866 posts)They are allowing the media to control the narrative. The Dems. should schedule a weekly update in the form of an ad and put it on all major stations. A quick down and dirty of the truth of whats going on. They are too passive about getting the message out. I think theyre in the DC bubble and they think those of us out in the hinterland have the same info they do. We dont. They cant rely on the media. They need to do an end-around.

(18,486 posts)The idea that people sitting at home who don't know a fraction of what she does feel perfectly entitled to lecture the Speaker of the House about what she SHOULD do is pretty amusing. And their certainty that if she hasn't said it to them and they haven't personally witnessed it, it's not happening AND that she is somehow obligated to explain her every move to them in advance is just as ridiculous.
People be trippin' sometimes, don't they?
