The news the CIA extricated a secret agent who worked for decades in the Kremlin to monitor and report Putins doings, fearing Donald J. Trump would out an American spy to the Russian president, shows the U.S. national security apparatus doesnt trust the President to keep secrets from our nations enemies.
That fact is amazing. And it reinforces through eyewitness reporting what Mueller documented: Putin and Russia helped elect Trump, Trump welcomed the help, Trump returned the favor through policies and actions to help Putin, and Trump has done nothing but lie about it all.

Trump's first visit to Soviet Moscow in 1987 looks, with hindsight, to be part of a pattern. The dossier by the former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele asserts that the Kremlin had been cultivating Trump for at least five years before his stunning victory in the 2016 US presidential election. This would take us back to around 2011 or 2012.
In fact, the Soviet Union was interested in him too, three decades earlier. The top level of the Soviet diplomatic service arranged his 1987 Moscow visit. With assistance from the KGB. It took place while Kryuchkov was seeking to improve the KGB's operational techniques in one particular and sensitive area. The spy chief wanted KGB staff abroad to recruit more Americans.

As Trump tells it, the idea for his first trip to Moscow came after he found himself seated next to the Soviet ambassador Yuri Dubinin. This was in autumn 1986; the event was a luncheon held by Leonard Lauder, the businessman son of Estée Lauder. Dubinins daughter Natalia had read about Trump Tower and knew all about it, Trump said in his 1987 bestseller, The Art of the Deal.
Trump continued: One thing led to another, and now Im talking about building a large luxury hotel, across the street from the Kremlin, in partnership with the Soviet government.
Trumps chatty version of events is incomplete. According to Natalia Dubinina, the actual story involved a more determined effort by the Soviet government to seek out Trump. In February 1985 Kryuchkov complained again about the lack of appreciable results of recruitment against the Americans in most Residencies. The ambassador arrived in New York in March 1986. His original job was Soviet ambassador to the U.N.; his daughter Dubinina was already living in the city with her family, and she was part of the Soviet U.N. delegation.

(14,904 posts)Perhaps it takes away some of the shock of writing the President of the United States is a traitor.
Now that Ive gotten to better understand the Demented and Perverted Bankrupt Unstable Moron, I can see how his treason really should be no surprise.

(14,904 posts)And when hes asked, he gets mad. From The Atlantic:
Trump: He sort of smiled when he said something to the effect that it started off as a mountain and it ended up being a mouse. But he knew that, because you knew there was no collusion whatsoever. So that is pretty much what it was
Reporter: Did you tell him not to meddle in the next election?
Trump: Excuse me. Im talking. Im answering this question. You are very rude. So we had a good conversation about many different things. Okay.
Reporter: Did you tell him not to meddle in the next election?
Trump: We didnt discuss that. Really, we didnt discuss it. We discussed five or six things.

What We Know About Efforts to Set Up a Trump-Russia Back Channel

Kushner and Flynn secretly met with Kislyak in Trump Tower on December 1, 2016. Last spring the Washington Post reported that Kushner proposed using Russian diplomatic facilities in the U.S. to establish a back channel for communication between the Trump transition and the Russian government. U.S. intelligence intercepted Kislyak describing the request to his superiors.
Kushner told Congress that Kislyak raised the idea, saying he wanted to convey information from his generals about the Syrian civil war, but needed a secure line. Kushner said he suggested going through the Russian embassy, but nothing came of it:
I believed developing a thoughtful approach on Syria was a very high priority given the ongoing humanitarian crisis, and I asked if they had an existing communications channel at his embassy we could use where they would be comfortable transmitting the information they wanted to relay to General Flynn. The Ambassador said that would not be possible and so we all agreed that we would receive this information after the Inauguration.

(32,639 posts)The agent is Russian and living in or near Washington DC now. He reported directly to Putin and he was close enough that he could make photographs of sensitive state documents and turn them over to the CIA. In 2017 he and his family were extracted out of Moscow in order to save their lives. If Chump had ever known, he surely would have blabbed it to Putin.
But isn't there another side to this? That Russian spy was in the Kremlin when Putin took steps to get Chump elected. He would certainly be able to testify and bring Chump down, if there's ever a trial or an impeachment. This guy needs to be kept safe in a secret location for the time being. But the CIA knows where he is.
