WASHINGTON President Donald Trump has not made America great again for American workers, a former longtime New York Times labor reporter told an audience here on Monday.
Steven Greenhouse, who covered the labor movement for the Times for almost two decades, recently released a book titled, Beaten Down, Worked Up: The Past, Present, and Future of American Labor.
One of his objectives, he said, was to sound the alarm about a hugely important phenomenon that far too few Americans understand or are paying attention to and that is that worker power in the United States has fallen to a dismal low, Greenhouse said Monday at the Economic Policy Institute, a liberal Washington, D.C.-based think tank.
Worker power in the United States is at its weakest point since the 1930s, Greenhouse said. As a result, lots of things are badly out of whack, making millions of Americans feel that the system is deeply rigged.
