Antonio Brown Accused of Rape in a Lawsuit
Antonio Brown of the New England Patriots, the most prominent wide receiver in the N.F.L., has been accused of raping a woman who worked as his trainer, according to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in the Southern District of Florida.
The lawsuit says that Brown in three separate incidents, two in June 2017 and another in May 2018 sexually assaulted a woman named Britney Taylor, a gymnast whom he met while they were attending Central Michigan together and whom he later hired as a trainer.
The lawsuit was filed one day after Brown, 31, became a Patriot following a brief, turbulent tenure with the Oakland Raiders that ended when he requested his release last week. Late Tuesday night, the Patriots issued a statement saying that the N.F.L. planned to do its own investigation of the accusations against Brown.

(13,400 posts)that part. If you trusted him to not blow things up somehow and make it a disaster, you had it coming to you. My first question would be, did Brown know this was coming before signing with the Pats? That alone should get him booted by the Pats.

(12,047 posts)Mr Kraft has brought to my attention that Mr. Brown has recently been granted diplomatic immunity and is protected from any NFL league action. While we consider this a serious matter, our hands are simply tied.

(1,957 posts)That the other poster linked. This is a classic example of why people don't believe women who make such claims. He jerked off on the woman and then she came back a year later after he apologized and he immediately forcibly raped her? Come on.

THIS is Brady's current home, now also up for sale for $39.5M.

(1,803 posts)The allegations seems a bit fishy. The timing, together with the failure to go to law enforcement is suspect. And after the first, and then the second alleged incident that you reference (how could she not notice that he was standing directly behind her masturbating while she was doing bible study on her tablet and he allegedly was so close to her that he could ejaculate on her back?) why would she accept his apology a year later and go back for more? It very well be that there was some sort of consensual relationship that went south when Brown refused to fund her gymnastics training center.
This is the problem with many sexual assault/harassment claims. They often are he said/she said, and since no one else was present, no one else can know what truly happened. She did allegedly pass a lie detector test, but the alleged results are not admissible as evidence in the case and likely were referenced in the complaint (perhaps improperly) only to bolster the womans credibility in the court of public opinion.
The text message that was quoted in the Complaint, assuming the quotation accurate, is troubling. While largely incomprehensible, it makes Brown look like a misogynistic jerk and makes me wonder how the guy managed to get through high school, into a college, and then graduate (rhetorical question no need to answer). The education system clearly failed Antonio Brown.
My prediction is that Brown gets suspended by the NFL for a number of weeks based on the text message alone. But who knows what the context was, or if the entire exchange was retained by either party.
Like Belichick, Ill reserve judgment until the facts are developed. Brown is apparently going to file counterclaims, so this is bound to get ugly. In the meantime, the Pats will win the Super Bowl again with or without Antonio Brown. Go Pats!

(12,047 posts)The 25-year-old Edelman posted bail after his arrest earlier this morning but was back in court this afternoon answering to a single count of indecent assault and battery. The alleged dance-floor sexual assault had one witness wanting to take on the Patriot right away, according to a police report.
The police report on the bust states Edelman reached under a womans party costume and grabbed her vagina while they were on the dance floor.
Edelman was arrested by Boston police and booked soon after.
The Patriots are aware of reports regarding Julian Edelman and will defer all comments to his representatives.
Later, during a conference call with the media, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked if this might impact Edelmans standing with the team. Belichick responded: I dont think we have enough information to comment on that right now.

30. Ms. Taylor never dated or had an interest in any romantic relationship with Brown. Their relationship, as far as Ms. Taylor believed and behaved, was that of a brother-sister type.
