September 11, 2019
Moments ago, at a solemn ceremony marking the collapse of the South Tower, a man paused from reading the names of victims, one of whom was his mother, to launch an attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar and Democrats, calling out the squad for their apparent failure to recognize that 9/11 was an assault on our Judeo-Christian values. This man repeated the words on his shirt, promoting the right wing lie that Omar had trivialized 9/11 as merely that time that some people did something. His words got rousing applause and the organizers were clearly in on his plans as his shirt would have been a giveaway.
UPDATE: This man is the founder or administrator of Facebook Apostles group, as his hat indicates.
This guy is supposed to be reading names but is instead attacking Rep Ilhan Omar and the squad. Good fucking grief.

(18,238 posts)23 cops died that day and 200+ have died of 9/11 related illnesses since.
My son is NYPD and my husband is an FDNY 9/11 survivor.
Today is not a day for random slander.

(78 posts)Ill admit that was a flip comment. I apologize. Let me expand.
The NY police union president slandering the Garner family or de Blasio et al. after the firing of the officer who chocked him to death. Thats what I meant when I sai police unions. The NY police union board has become a radicalized right wing political voice in NY and they have huge influence on NY politics. I never meant to disparage you son or the brave men and women first responders, who, I might add, I used to be in my younger days as an EMT in the 70s.

(12,712 posts)of not having a clue what appropriate behavior might be and also the meaning of context. By appropriate I don't mean just following rules, obeying protocols and such. I mean, that there is a connection and association to what you are doing that requires sensitivity and even self-control for the benefit of all concerned.
He already has his platform and this was a hijacking and an insult on a solemn occasion. It was crude in a way that belies his beliefs in my opinion, especially by politicizing the reading and airing a grudge as it matters. How is that respectful? An attack during the remembrance of an attack?
