What we learned from the special election in North Carolina's 9th congressional district

1. Republicans are playing defense (again) for the 2020 congressional elections—and maybe the presidential contest, too.

2. Republicans are still suffering a harsh blood-letting in suburban areas of the country. Suburbanites are engaged and seemingly increasingly anti-Trump, though NC-09 is only one datum and the story in Charlotte may not be the story everywhere.

3. Trump's rallies seem to be hurting, not helping, him. As he continues to campaign across the country, will he just continue to activate his opponents?

Mecklenburg county has a growing population. When its GOTV machine is engaged it is very powerful, and can make the difference in regional and statewide elections. While Trump carried N.C. in 2016 we did elect a Dem Governor, and that was, in great part, due to Mecklenburg.

Last night proved that Trump will lose N.C. in 2020.

Ironically......Trump’s Mooresville golf club is in Mecklenburg County.

A progressive fighter should be able to win it. McCready should not have feared Obama or other national Dems coming in. Special elections don’t get the same turnout as traditional election cycles.

A special election would be one that didn't take place in November.

From what I understand, it was carved out to give republican's a gigantic edge.

Let's see what happens when the Court ordered districts are contested.
