"The People" are not all of that

1) Ohio Republicans try to restrict early voting to groups that traditionally vote Republican.

Okay... they tried some shit, marking themselves as evil.

2) Obama campaign sues to restore early voting for all groups.

Normal.

3) Romney proclaims Obama is suing to block military folks from voting. A flat and chilling lie.

Par for the course.

4) Federal court orders early voting be allowed for all voters, not just hand-picked Republican-leaning voters.

A good decision.

5) Governor Mike deWine vows to appeal the decision so that Ohio can make it more difficult for many, many people in Ohio to vote.

This is the one that gets me. This shit gets sneaked in through the back door, and it gets found out. But then the governor of the state publicly vows to fight to the bitter end for the cause of reducing the effective right of people in his state to vote, with the assumption that the people of Ohio will rally to the cause of reducing their own voting access. And many of them will.

We hear a lot about "the people" but there is no such thing in practical terms. There are some people, and other people.

One would think that a thing called "the People" ought rise as one to defend the most fundamental interest of "the People."

But some of "the People" think that "the People" ought not be voting so much because they are the wrong kind of "the People."

So can we stop this nonsense about "the People?" There is no such thing.

"The People" is a rhetorical device describing a subset of people who support whatever the speaker is into. Everyone else is not "the People." They are just the enemy.
