Milestone of a 9/11 parent

Some may have realized the passing of a milestone in our nation's history and some may not.
I'm the parent of a child born in 2001. I definitely realized it.
Because this is the year, yesterday was the day, that a child born on 9/01/01 became an adult. They lived their entire childhood in a world no other US child before them ever knew.
Soon, a child born in 2001, could join the military and go into combat in country we have been at war with their entire lives.

Yesterday was a very sad day indeed.

1. My oldest son is 18

he was six months old on 9/11. We were in a hotel room in Florida, my husband teaching a sales seminar for HVAC sales people from NY/NJ.

When I saw the news, I went down and interrupted his class, to make sure that none of the students heard it on the news without warning. A couple of them rented a car and went back, most stayed.

It was a hard week for everyone. Being away from home and having to fly back on Friday, one of the first flights allowed out of Orlando, it was all just surreal.

My son has never known a world where we aren't at war.

2. Heartbreaking

The significance cannot be understated.

I was home alone with our 3 month old while my wife was getting a medical procedure done (her aunt was with her) and a scroll bar came across the screen during Telitubbies after the first strike and a changed the channel to the news. On. Every. Channel.

Holding my infant son while staring at the events unfold around me is a life moment I'll never forget.

3. Yep. We were watching Good Morning America

Conrad loved Diane Sawyer's face for some reason, so we watched in the morning and he'd "talk" to her big, giant TV head.

Saw the tower burning, figured it was some kind of explosion, then saw the second plane hit. I'll never forget that moment. Or the moment when the first tower came down, seeing some tiles or something falling, then the collapse.
