There have been no illusions that Republicans would ever vote to convict in the Senate, if the House were to impeach.
However, we have been bombarded with disinformation from all angles and we have been obstructed at pursuing any legal recourse.
We should not have to go thru an election without knowing the facts and the truth about how Donald Trump became president in 2016. How much did Russia help him? Did he win legitimately?
Without impeachment proceedings, we may never know the truth. So the people will go to the polls once again without the knowledge they need to make an informed vote.
If the Democrats can get the information voters need and the facts can be exposed thru hearings and by calling different witnesses, then it may be possible to impeach in the public square without going thru official impeachment proceedings. But, so far, they have failed to do this.
The impeachment process is not necessarily meant to throw Trump out of office. It is meant to get to the truth and give it to the American people, so they can make an informed decision on election day.
At this time, that is the most important function of an impeachment.

(17,003 posts)Voters have an incredibly short memory. Any info that comes out this far from the election will be long forgotten. I trust Pelosi to manage that issue so it works to our best advantage.

(16,616 posts)Some extremely important congressional hearings have been ignored because they seemed detached from a larger unity. Once an impeachment inquiry is underway, and it's called just that--"Impeachment Inquiry"--my hope is that the American people will come home from working thinking, "What happened in the congressional hearings today?" Every night on the news there will be the Impeachment segment. And the media will feel pressure to cover everything under the umbrella of "an Impeachment Proceeding is underway." It's probably just psychological, but it could really funnel a wide range of criminal behaviors into a manageable and comprehensible singularity.
