Pence and Pompeo to headline DC "event" in a TOTALLY UNEXPECTED LOCATION.

Pence and Pompeo to headline event at Trump’s DC hotel that will funnel more money into his pockets

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/09/pence-and-pompeo-to-headline-event-at-trumps-dc-hotel-that-will-funnel-more-money-into-his-pockets/

Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are both scheduled this week to headline an event at President Donald Trump’s hotel in Washington, D.C. that stands to make money for the president’s personal business.

The Washington Post reports that both of the top Trump administration officials will be speaking at a Concerned Women for America to be held at Trump’s D.C. hotel.

The Trump Organization refused to give the Post details about how much money the events will bring in for the hotel, but the paper notes that “similar events in the hotel’s ballrooms have cost in the tens of thousands of dollars.” Additionally, the Post has found that tickets for the event were being sold starting at $99 a piece.

Toni DeLancey, the chief of staff for Concerned Women for America, defended her organization’s decision to hold its event at the president’s hotel, and she praised it for having “outstanding service” and “the best accommodations Washington, D.C. has to offer.”

Vice President Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are scheduled to speak this week at President Trump’s hotel in Washington — lending their names to events put on by a paying customer of Trump’s private business.

The planned speeches suggest that President Trump and his Cabinet are not shying away from events that drive revenue to Trump’s company, even after multiple stories have brought new scrutiny to the blurring of lines between Trump’s business and presidency.

Pence is scheduled to speak Thursday night at the hotel, during a gala put on by the Concerned Women for America, a 40-year-old conservative nonprofit that says it promotes “Biblical values and Constitutional principles.” Tickets to that event previously cost at least $99, but are no longer for sale, according to the nonprofit’s website.

Pompeo will speak at a separate event at the Trump hotel on Friday, a “celebration luncheon” held by the same conservative group, his staff said.

Neither the conservative group nor the Trump Organization answered questions about how much these events cost. But similar events in the hotel’s ballrooms have cost in the tens of thousands of dollars, according to hotel documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

That's new, as in within the last few days. Last week, the links went to www.washingtonpost.com, IIRC.

Thanks.

I thought that was your line of work. I can find the power switch on my laptop, and that's about it.

I thought you might know what the "beta" means.

Sorry.

intent. A post attempting to note what a beautiful day it is can end up all wrong.

I write a lot, and what I write for keeps gets edited and edited and edited and....

It's all good, as the kids say.

The beta server is likely a testing server being used on their front line for whatever reason their IT deems necessary. Not sure why any of that matters to us, the news consumers.

Miles, I really enjoy your OP's! But, Rawstory is an aggregate site that steals content from their original sources (and then plies ads over every layer). I know WaPo has a paywall, but it's ridiculously cheap (a buck a week). And their reporters are the BEST, and worth every cent in that buck!

Their tagline is "Democracy Dies in Darkness". We need them, certainly as much as we need in the early 70's.

I subscribe to WaPo and NYT (2 bucks/wk for both) - if you need content for links to them, I'm very happy to snip 4 paragraphs and send them to you if you PM me.

We really should support the journalists who are informing the public.

And I do post original content links, like the PBS story I just posted, as well as WaPo, NYT and others. I still use Raw Story because it iS an aggregate, and many times I'm too busy to pore through multiple outlets. I don't do it to screw over anyone, i do it because I have too many other things going on. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but it's the answer.

Last visit to the site, I turned off adblocker (necessary if you want to enter the site to begin with) and had to click 4 popup ads *before* even seeing content, and the moment I scrolled, a fifth ad popped up. That's simply abuse of the user. You can pay $5/mo (a buck more than WaPo/mo) for LESS ads, but not the removal of all ads.

It's a scummy business model.

Not to be confused with the Desiderata:

Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right,
But that three lefts do.
Wherever possible put people on "HOLD".
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
And despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.
Remember the Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you;
That lemon on your left for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls,
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore; it will stick to your face.
Carefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan,
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
For a good time, call 606-4311.
Take heart amid the deepening gloom that your dog
Is finally getting enough cheese;
And reflect that whatever fortunes may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Sioux City.
You are a fluke of the Universe.
You have no right to be here, and whether you can hear it or not,
The Universe is laughing behind your back.
Therefore make peace with your God whatever you conceive him to be,
Hairy Thunderer or Cosmic Muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.
Give up.
