Anti-Obama country concert in Charlotte is canceled. Reason: Low ticket sales Bwahahaha!!!

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-rock-red-concert-charlotte-canceled-20120831,0,2548345.story

A planned anti-President Obama concert, "Rock the Red," had been scheduled as counter-programming to the Democratic National Convention next week. Country artists including Travis Tritt, Charlie Daniels and Lee Brice were booked at the 11,000-seat Bojangles Coliseum for a show organized by Jason Lambert, a North Carolina Republican consultant. Though not an official Republican event, the set was planned as a conservative riposte to the DNC festivities.

But the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, which operates the Coliseum, pulled the plug on the event Thursday. Kimberly Meesters, the director of marketing for the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, told Talking Points Memo that organizers "didn’t meet their financial obligations by the deadline we require," which appears to be shorthand for very low ticket sales.

In a post on their Facebook site, organizers for Rock the Red stated "Bojangles claims the change was due to low ticket sales on Ticketmaster. However, it was nearly impossible to find the event on Ticketmaster for ticket purchasers, and we received no promotional help as promised, contractually."

The group says it's scrambling to find an alternate location for the concert, and is giving refunds for the event. But who is the real villain in all of this, according to Rock the Red? "We REFUSE to be bullied by the liberal city of Charlotte and their counterparts," organizers wrote in their post.

Couldn't find mention of it on the WRAL site, just this little blip:

To those DUers who are going - have enough fun for all of us!!!

Btw - Right NOW, C-SPAN is showing the unveiling of the DNC Platform!!

There's so much hatred here it's palpable in some really red areas. Lots of low info voter pockets and the typical racists, bigots and fundie nuts.

They had a nice line up to attract them but it all fell through

So far:

too many porta pottys at their rallies.
too many empty seats in Michigan.
too many booked rooms in Las Vegas (the casino wants them to pay up for their reservation commitments)
too few of viewers of the GOP convention (down 31% from four years ago)
too few of folks to show up for Herman Cain's capitulation gala.
too many unsold tickets for "Rock the Red".

As you can see......I'm keeping a running tally.

There simply isn't enough angry old men too keep it going and when they do show it is a blase affair. This is Darwin economics at it's finest. They are being destroyed by the very philosophy they swear by.

The angry old men have prescriptions to pay for and the billionaires are investing in television instead of the grass roots. Why? Because it is the manner in which CEOs are accustomed to with regard to communicationg with the ordinary Joe. They scoff at community organizing and put money down the television sink hole instead. What is lovely about all of this is that TV watchers have left TV advertising behind with the advent of automated digital video recording. The billionaires have no idea how to create a movement except to invest in "skipped" TV ads.

Edit: Look for some new legislation to be purchased by the billionaire club prohibiting people from using tecnology to skip their advertising. I'm not joking. Look how tough it was to stop unrestricted phone solicitation. Especially when it is used for political purposes.

Bojangle's for biscuits and gravy. He said, "Gateley, that is NOT funny!". He was flabbergasted, as was I when I first arrived. Great biscuits, though -- a real treat for us West Coasters.

It's a regional chain of fried chicken stands with REALLY good food.

The coliseum is next to the Chantilly Mall and Charlotte's Fox station. Really.

What jumped out even more were all the barbecue joints. North Carolina is covered with them. North Carolina barbecue is invariably pork. And all the restaurants have a cute line drawing of a pig either on the side of the building or in their logo. Are these people TRYING to turn their customers vegan?

I just found one version of that here(it also includes surrounding states)

I wonder if politicians ever try to divide the state by "Whole Hog/Apple Cider Vinegar" and "Dark Meat/Brown Sugar and Ketchup" voters?

Pork shoulder is also called "high on the hog."

Whole hog is hard to do for several reasons--the different parts of the hog cook at different rates, you need a cooker that can hold a whole hog, there are a LOT of bones in a whole hog--so most of the BBQ chefs I knew down there did fresh hams rather than whole pigs.

The apple cider vinegar-based sauce is still used...this is mine:

1 qt vinegar
1 jar red pepper flakes
5 minced garlic cloves
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon black pepper

Put in a jar and let set for a month.

When ready to use, mix 1 part of this with 2 parts vegetable oil and baste meat frequently, preferably with a "Barbecue Mop."

Hopefully it's the sign of apathy but time will tell.

Saw one of my neighbors around the corner and down the road has his Romney sign up along with 2 other local R's. He's so proud to be supporting an ass this election just like in '08. He has a daughter in one of those wheelchairs like Reeves used so she must be extremely ill.

Some people I just don't get at all. They consistently vote against their own best interests.

I'll take every little positive sign I can get and keep talking to people about R/R, warn them to check their voter registration is valid and remind them to vote (something we didn't do too much of in 2010).

The ultimate Teabillie footstompin' music.

I'm an old fart with about 3400 songs on my i-touch. Nintey nine percent of those songs are from the 70's and 80's. I didn't choose to put Charlie on the playlist. In other words, I thought there were 3400 songs that were more appealing.

Trying to sell tickets for a guy that can barely make a living playing at the Smallville County fair and believing the Anti-Obama theme would sell it out.

Funny.......I never hear of the Rolling Stones bitching about Ticketmaster failing to sell out their venues. From the same era as Ol' Charlie so dated music isn't the issue. Maybe because people actually want to go watch them.

Speaking of the Stones, one of my favorite songs by them is called Sweet Neo Con.

Here are the lyrics:

Keno's ROLLING STONES Web Site

ROLLING STONES LYRICS

SWEET NEO CON

Song written about George W. Bush's administration. Recorded in May & June of 2005. Released on the album A Bigger Bang on September 5, 2005
Lead Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Harmonica, Keyboards: Mick Jagger Electric Guitars: Keith Richards Drums: Charlie Watts

SWEET NEO CON
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

You call yourself a Christian
I think that you're a hypocrite
You say you are a patriot
I think that you're a crock of shit

And listen, I love gasoline
I drink it every day
But it's getting very pricey
And who is going to pay

How come you're so wrong
My sweet neo con.... Yeah

It's liberty for all
'Cause democracy's our style
Unless you are against us
Then it's prison without trial

But one thing that is certain
Life is good at Haliburton
If you're really so astute
You should invest at Brown & Root.... Yeah

How come you're so wrong
My sweet neo con
If you turn out right
I'll eat my hat tonight

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah....

It's getting very scary
Yes, I'm frightened out of my wits
There's bombers in my bedroom
Yeah and it's giving me the shits

We must have loads more bases
To protect us from our foes
Who needs these foolish friendships
We're going it alone

How come you're so wrong
My sweet neo con
Where's the money gone
In the Pentagon

Yeah ha ha ha
Yeah, well, well

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Neo con
